Using a fine carving blade, the artisan moves across a body as thin as paper, shaping scrolling peony branches and drifting cloud forms. Each cut requires acute sensitivity to the strength of the clay and the rhythm of the pattern. The hand must remain attentive yet unforced, neither trapped by fear of error nor tempted by unnecessary complexity. In this balance, the carving becomes an act of clarity rather than display.

The peony motif, long associated with prosperity, grace, and fullness of life, is rendered not through surface ornamentation but as a shadowed presence beneath the glaze.
